Privacy Policy

This policy describes the visitor information collected through Monroe County Criminal History, why it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. Continuing to use the website means accepting these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search box goes directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider handles the request and its results. We do not keep a separate log of those terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email may be kept as needed to prepare and document a reply. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the server may receive routine technical facts about the visit:

  • The IP address assigned to your device
  • Which browser you are using and its version
  • Your device type and operating system
  • The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
  • The site that sent you here, if any
  • Timestamps for each page view

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small device files used to understand traffic patterns, popular pages, and where visits end. Analytics providers combine that activity into reports. Browser controls can block cookies, though some features may then work differently.

What We Do With This Data

  • Keeping the site up, running, and loading quickly
  • Sending your search requests to the right partner service
  • Figuring out which pages people find useful and which need work
  • Tracking down and fixing technical issues
  • Showing ads that may line up with your interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Monroe County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes routing information for the sheriff, criminal courts, West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, and West Virginia Sex Offender Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not turned into a consumer report or third-party dossier.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention choices, and sharing rules govern information submitted to them. Review the displayed provider's policy before running a query because this policy does not control that processing.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to courts, sheriff resources, state agencies, legal services, or search providers. After a visitor follows one, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before providing personal details.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. We do not operate that tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

  • Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
  • Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
  • Ad networks that place ads on our pages
  • Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security measures are used for information under our control. No internet service can promise complete protection, so a breach or unauthorized access cannot be ruled out.

Users Under 18

The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Notice that a minor supplied data will prompt a deletion review.

Your Data Rights

Applicable law may provide added control over personal information. West Virginia's Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code Chapter 29B, governs requests to public bodies and does not make this private website a government records custodian. Subject to the law that applies, a visitor may:

  • Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
  • Have us fix information that is wrong
  • Request that we erase your data
  • Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
